Comfort Lake

Comfort Lake is the third largest lake in the District with a surface area of 218 acres. It has a very large drainage area of almost 25,000 acres with the main tributaries coming from Little Comfort Lake entering at the southeast end of the lake and drainage from the Sunrise River (discharging from Forest Lake) entering at the west side of the lake. Stormwater runoff from the north and west areas of the City of Forest Lake and the southwest and southeast areas of the City of Wyoming also contributes to flow in the Sunrise River. Prior to entering Comfort Lake, the Sunrise River flows through a variety of land uses including wetland, residential and agricultural. Comfort Lake is heavily used for recreation and has a public boat landing. Comfort Lake has a lake grade of A. It is on the State’s Impaired Waters List for high nutrients. A study in 2007 found the fish population has remained relatively stable across surveys and that rough fish were present but not overly abundant.
