Education & Outreach

The purpose of the education and outreach program is to effectively communicate the activities of the Comfort Lake - Forest Lake Watershed District (CLFLWD) to Stakeholders as well as increase the awareness of the Stakeholders as to water resource issues and their roles in improving the quality of our water resources.

Gregg Thompson, a Landscape Restoration Specialist with the Association of Metropolitan Soil and Water Conservation Districts, gives a presentation at a CLFLWD hosted workshop on how shoreland owners can create plantings and gardens that look beautiful, stabilize their lakeshore and work to keep water clean.

Presentations to Cities, Townships and County officials, the preparation of newsletters, fact sheets and flyers, and conducting tours of CLFLWD activities are important aspects of the education and outreach program.

In late 2008, the CLFLWD became a member of the East Metro Water Resource Education Program (EMWREP). The EMWREP is a partnership formed to develop a comprehensive water resource education and outreach program for member partners. Members of EMWREP include Brown’s Creek Watershed District, CLFLWD, Middle St. Croix Watershed Management Organization, Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District, Rice Creek Watershed District, South Washington Watershed District, Valley Branch Watershed District, City of Stillwater, Washington County and the Washington Conservation District. The EMWREP region covers all of Washington County as well as a small portion of Chisago and Ramsey Counties.

The purpose for this education and outreach program is to educate the public, municipal staff and officials, business owners and various other target audiences within the EMWREP region about the impacts of storm water discharges on water bodies and the steps that they can take to reduce pollutants in storm water runoff.
