Overview

Bone Lake is the second largest lake in the District and considered an “active recreation lake”. Although considered a deep lake, Bone exhibits some shallow lake characteristics because 58% of its area is in the littoral zone where rooted plants can grow. Bone Lake has a public boat landing and is used recreationally for swimming, fishing, and motorized and non-motorized boating. In 2004, it was placed on the State’s Impaired Waters List due to high nutrients.

Water Quality

In 2004 Bone Lake was placed on the State’s Impaired Waters List due to high nutrients. Over the past several years the CLFLWD has implemented several water quality projects to address the excess nutrients, such as phosphorus, entering the lake. These projects have resulted in a phosphorus load reduction of 786lb/yr, or 93% of the District’s goal for Bone Lake. Bone Lake has had a statistically significant improving trend in phosphorus and secchi depth since 2011 and is currently meeting the 10-year (2031) District goal for phosphorus.
